36|It Turns Out I Wasn’t Overthinking It
Today, I finally saw everything clearly.
It turns out that my ex-husband and another woman were not just ordinary friends. He told her that he loved her. Before leaving Hong Kong, they met and embraced more than once. Even after moving to Malaysia, he continued contacting her through a secret account, deliberately keeping it from me.
When I read those words, my first thought was:
Thank goodness. At last, I know the truth.
Not because being betrayed is something to celebrate, but because, for so many years, I felt that I had been unfairly blamed. My suspicions were dismissed as overthinking, and my pain was treated as though I were being unreasonable. I even questioned myself repeatedly:
Was I being too sensitive?
Had I misunderstood him?
Was I actually the problem?
Now, I no longer have to doubt myself.
When a married person develops feelings for someone outside the marriage, expresses those feelings, meets and embraces that person in private more than once, and then secretly maintains contact while hiding it from their spouse, it is no longer an ordinary friendship. It is a betrayal.
I was not wrong about what I sensed all those years ago. The uneasiness I felt did not come from nowhere.
Looking back now, I feel even more certain that choosing divorce was the right decision.
It was not because I had never tried, nor did I give up as soon as problems appeared.
Throughout this marriage, I gave my heart, tried to communicate, and did everything I could to save and repair our relationship. For eight years, I continued giving it time and chances because I treasured our family and wanted to do right by Jason.
But one person cannot carry all the effort, and a marriage cannot survive when only one person is struggling to hold it together.
Because I genuinely tried, I can now walk away knowing that I have not failed Jason or myself. I fulfilled my responsibilities. I did not give up carelessly, nor did I break up our family on impulse.
I hope that one day Jason will understand that his mother did not leave because she did not value our family. I left after trying my best because I chose to stop allowing myself to be hurt. A marriage that appears complete from the outside but has lost its honesty and trust is not the example I want to leave for him.
A relationship truly worth cherishing should be built on loyalty, respect, and honesty—not held together by one person’s endless tolerance.
I did not leave because I had lost. I left because I finally learned to protect myself and stopped allowing someone else’s choices to make me question my own worth.
The truth may have come very late, but it came at last.
Today, I can finally let go of the burden and injustice that were never mine to carry.
I was not the one who made the wrong choices.
I was not the one who broke the trust.
I tried to save the marriage, and I gave it everything I had.
So I can face Jason, this marriage, and myself with a clear conscience.
At this moment, my heart finally feels clear—and at peace.🌿
